Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, but if you’re anything like me, you’ve barely scratched the surface with your Christmas shopping. I am an absolute sucker for gift guides and have been wanting to create my own since I started blogging over two years ago. The time has finally come and I’m very excited to share with you some of my favorite travel-related items and essentials that I know will make great gifts for any fellow nomads out there! I’m even MORE excited to give away some of these items to a few lucky readers and offer some promo codes as well, thanks to the generosity of awesome companies.
Before I get started, I wanted to thank my wonderfully talented friend Kristin for taking these photos for me! She does some great work and if anyone is in the Los Angeles area and interested in hiring a photographer, feel free to check her out here.
Let’s get started!
I don’t consider myself a travel expert by any means but I have acquired a few items that make traveling a whole lot easier! Besides the obvious, like a phone, laptop, and camera, here are two essentials that I absolutely cannot imagine traveling without…
1. Eagle Creek Packing Cubes
I’ve heard about packing cubes for ages and stupidly thought they were too complicated, involving vacuums, endless rolling, and so on. Newsflash, they’re extremely simple and allow you to fit a large amount of clothing into your suitcase, while staying organized. I must admit, I don’t exactly pack light but thanks to a set of three packing cubes, I can fit eight dresses, two pairs of jeans, two skirts, five tops, and a cardigan into a carry-on size suitcase… and that only fills it up halfway! They’re magical. Trust me. I prefer to fold normally rather than roll, but either works.
I have two Eagle Creek Specter Starter Sets to give away! If you’re interested, read the giveaway details at the end of this post to enter.
2. Skyroam Hotspot Device
I just recently started using Skyroam while I was in Europe last month and don’t understand how I ever managed to travel with out it. Actually, I remember the days of searching for a McDonalds or Starbucks while exploring Europe, in order to have a decent wifi connection to send a text or look up a restaurant. No more!
Okay, I know I’m being dramatic and that hotspot devices are nothing new but this is my faaaavorite one. It’s reliable, affordable, and can connect up to 5 devices at one time at no extra cost. This made the people who were traveling with me very happy as well! Each 24-hour pass offers unlimited data as well so you don’t have to worry about going over which is such a dream for travel bloggers like me 🙂
BOOKS, GLORIOUS BOOKS (and other paper related goodies)!
3. Knopf Map Guides
These are definitely my favorite guide books to bring with me on my travels. They’re extremely light, compact, and give you just the right amount of information. I like how they organize every city by neighborhood, telling you where to eat, sleep, and shop. But more importantly, the pages will turn into a decent size map of that particular neighborhood which I find extremely helpful! They’re around $10 on Amazon.
I’ll be giving away my copies of the London guide and Paris guide to a reader who doesn’t mind that they are used/loved! Giveaway details will be at the end of this post.
4. Ninj & Ninj 2016 Planner (or diary if you’re from the UK)
I’m someone who looovveesss planning out my travels but I need to start being a bit more organized in my day-to-day life. Like most people, I have a calendar on my laptop and phone that I rely on but technology does fail sometimes (shocking, I know!) and I like the idea of writing out my week. Selfishly, this one might be more for me than you, but I fell in love with Ninj & Ninj planners on Etsy and just have to share! They’re kindly offering 20% off any of their planners through January 1st if you use the code BONVOYAGE. I don’t earn anything from this, they’re just very generous!
I think the arrow design is adorable and I’ll be giving away one so look for the giveaway details at the end of this post!
5. One Line A Day by Chronicle Books
I love the idea of journaling, especially during my travels. I’m sure that’s quite obvious, since I am a travel blogger. However, when it comes to writing down everything you did that day, that’s just not realistic for me. My mom used these One Line A Day journals when she was a little girl and the design has actually stayed the same throughout the years! I like the thought of jotting down your favorite (or least favorite, whatever is memorable!) moment from that day, and being able to look back at what you did last year, or five years ago!
I’m giving away one journal, details down below!
CREATIVE & THOUGHTFUL GIFTS
6. Artifact Uprising Photo Books
I’ve been creating photo books of my favorite trips with Artifact Uprising for a few years now. They’re simple, stylish, easy to make, and the quality is incredible. Besides photo books, you can also create cards, calendars, wall art, and several other cute gift ideas. I think I’ll be ordering one of their wooden calendars this year or a photo box.
They’re kindly offering 10% off for one week (through 12/7) if you use the code BONVOYAGE! But don’t put an exclamation point, that’s just me being excited 😉
7. Framed travel quotes & photos
All of those handprints I made and pictures I drew in grade school must’ve really had an impact since I love the idea of homemade gifts! Also, it’s affordable which my wallet loves as well. Something rather simple and inexpensive is printing and framing your favorite travel photo, typography, or quote. It doesn’t have to be travel related but of course all of mine are!
8. Rifle Paper Co. Coaster Set
The Rifle Paper Co. make beautiful stationery and other paper related items that you can buy online or find in stores like Anthropologie. I’m always swooning over their merchandise and recently came across their coaster set that just happened to say Bon Voyage on the box which made me way too happy. I almost love the box the coasters came in even more than the coasters but don’t tell anyone.
I had an idea to frame four of these paper coasters (there’s eight in total) that display beautiful designs of cities like New York, Paris, and Tokyo. They’re 30% off right now if you’re interested, they have quite a few travel-themed items!
Unfortunately, my Mapiful poster hasn’t arrived yet but after designing it, they created this image of what it’s going to look like that I’ll share below!
The shipping is free and it’s coming all the way from Sweden so I’ll forgive them 😉 Basically, you can pick a map of your favorite city, customize it, add whatever caption you want, and voila! Yes, it would make a great gift for someone but of course I made a London poster for myself first. Merry Christmas to me!
GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING:
Subscription boxes are such a trend right now and are basically taking over the world. I’m totally okay with it though, especially if they’re travel-themed! Here are my two favorites…
I’m so passionate about this company and I wrote an entire post about them that you can read here. Globein will deliver handmade gifts from around the world to your doorstep every month. When you purchase a box, or handmade basket to be more specific, your money is helping support local artisans from across the globe. There are so many charities out there where you can simply send a check every month, not knowing exactly where your money is going. Or there are companies like GlobeIn which send you beautifully handcrafted products made by hardworking people from places like Ghana, Peru, or Mexico. In other words, not only are you receiving these gifts, you are also helping fund a sustainable life for these well-deserving humans.
Everything is so well-made and each month has a theme like wellness, home, or cozy. December’s theme is celebrate and I cannot wait for it to arrive! If you use the promo code BONVOYAGE, you’ll save 25% off your first month’s box with a purchase of a three or six month subscription. Again, I’m not gaining anything from this, I just want to spread the love! Tis the season, right? 🙂
11. Try The World
I just received my first Try The World box yesterday and it’s a foodie’s dream come true. “Discover the world through food” is their tagline and that’s basically my life motto so this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
They deliver a gourmet food box from a new country every two months with eight products that are curated from notable chefs around the world. They only provide items from small, family-owned companies who follow artisan methods of production which is something I really like! This month was a special holiday box that included eight products, but they were from different countries such as Morocco, Israel, Sweden, Canada, Italy, and more!
I just love the idea of getting a gift delivered every month or so. Subscription boxes like these are nice gift ideas for someone who has it all and you’re at a loss for what to buy!

3. You have two weeks to enter, the last day is Monday, December 14th. I want to try and get these to you before Christmas!
I hope this holiday gift guide provided you with a few ideas of what to get that traveler in your life… even if that traveler is you! Now you know what to ask for 😉
