2016 Holiday Gift Guide For Travelers + GIVEAWAYS!

If you’re a fan of all things related to Christmas and shopping… then this really is the most wonderful time of the year!

Before I started blogging, I was absolutely obsessed with reading holiday gift guides. Sure, I’d see some of the same items being repeated across the blogosphere. But more often than not, I’d discover one or two great gift ideas from each list.

Hopefully this list (or the one from last year!) will provide you with inspiration on what to get that travel fanatic in your life. If *you* are that travel fanatic, now you’ll know what to put on your Christmas list! ***Stick around to the end of the post and I’ll share with you how to win some of these fabulous items.***

#1 Sony Digital Camera

Now I’ve been a Canon girl my whole life but I recently bought the Sony Alpha a5000 Mirrorless Digital Camera! Obviously, it’s bigger than your standard point and shoot camera, but this thing can fit inside most small to medium size handbags which is a huge plus. The photo quality (even at night) is incredible and I find the video quality and zoom so much better than my previous Canon DSLR’S. I also love the front facing screen (for selfies, of course) and the wifi connectivity to my smartphone is a great bonus. The battery life is also the best I’ve ever experienced in a camera. Okay, I’ll stop gushing.

#2 Skyroam

I love this device so much, it’s made it onto my holiday gift guide for the second time in a row. Yes, it’s that good. Skyroam is a wifi hotspot device that solves the classic problem of not being able to use your smartphone or laptop abroad whenever you want! You pay a one time fee of $99.99 (on sale now for $79.99) for the device which comes with a few day passes. Once you’ve used up those day passes, you can keep adding as many as you want for as little as $8 a day.

My favorite thing about this device, and what really sets it apart from the others, is that your 24 hour pass gives you UNLIMITED data. I love how I don’t have to worry about going over a certain amount and then being charged extra. Also, up to five devices can connect to it at one time. My friends love traveling abroad with me because they know I’ll be using Skyroam and sharing the gift of wifi!

Skyroam kindly sent me this product a couple years ago and it’s honestly still my #1 travel device that I will never leave the country without.

#3 Travel Neck Pillow

I’ve lost count of how many neck pillows I’ve tried using. I absolutely hate the blow up ones or the ones with those pesky little beads. They cause my neck to ache after awhile which just defeats the whole purpose. Memory foam is my absolute favorite material and the Aeris pillows have worked out the best for me. Plus, how nice is that color?!

#4 Umbra Envelope Travel Organizer

This adorable travel jewelry organizer has saved me the stress of untangling all of my necklaces while on the go! You can fit so much in here yet it’s extremely compact. How convenient! I absolutely love it and your precious jewelry will too. ***Giveaway details at the end of this post***

#5 AMINIMAL Studio Urban Gridded Necklace

Speaking of jewelry, how beautiful are these travel-themed necklaces? You can choose from several different cities and also pick whether you want it in silver or gold. The detail is really incredible and it’s definitely an accessory that will be a conversation starter! ***Giveaway details at the end of this post***

#6 NY Times 36-Hour World Guide Books

Not only does this make a great coffee table book, it’s actually pretty damn helpful when it comes to planning! I mostly read on my Kindle now but I collect travel books so I was VERY excited when I saw the European Edition in the used section of Powell’s in Portland.

#7 Bon Appétit Box

If you read my previous gift guide, you’ll already know that I’m a fan of subscription boxes! I think they are great gifts for those people in our lives that are difficult to shop for. Besides, who wouldn’t want a present arriving at their doorstop on a monthly basis?

If you’re a fan of gourmet French food, then you’ll love Bon Appétit Box. Young entrepreneurs Zoé and Bertrand kindly sent me the Petite Apéritif Box to try out. I’m a wine lover so these beautifully packaged artisanal products paired perfectly with a glass (or three), ultimately elevating my wine tasting experience! The French really know how to live. Along with this petite box, they offer everything from a holiday box, French breakfast box, and regional boxes which include delicious products from places like Provence and Paris!

If you like what you see, use the code LAUREN10 to get 10% off your order. This is my gift to you!

#8 Uncommon Goods Scratch Map

How fun is this interactive wall art? Simply scratch off the places you’ve been and see how colorful this map of the world can get! I own the deluxe version which has a black background but the white background is just as nice. It’s so satisfying to come home from a new place and scratch off another part of the world that you’ve been to!

#9 Palomar Crumpled Maps

Sticking with the theme of maps, you must check out these unique city maps! Not only are these the lightest maps in the world, they are also indestructible, soft, waterproof, and can be crumpled every which way. Trust me, I tested it out. Yes, this is a fun item but it’s also a really good map you can actually use! You’ll find details on the side about large neighborhoods, monuments, museums, art galleries and much more. ***Giveaway details at the end of this post***

#10 Global Entry

If you travel often, this is the BEST gift you can give yourself. I’m kicking myself for not signing up sooner. What is Global Entry? The website will describe it better than I can but it essentially gets you through most international customs faster and grants you TSA Pre-Check at major U.S. airports. You pay a one time fee of $100 and are granted this special access for FIVE years.

The sign up process is very simple too. The application took me about 30 minutes online and the hardest part was having to wait for my appointment at LAX three months later. The appointment itself took about 10 minutes. It’s that simple.

#11 RAVPower Portable Chargers

I get so anxious when I’m traveling and realize that my phone is almost dead after a few hours of intense Snapchatting (don’t judge me), googling directions, and texting. A portable charger is the obvious solution but RAVPower is one of the few brands that I actually recommend! I’ve purchased so many portable chargers in the past that either die after a few months or have a terrible battery life. Both of those situations are NOT ideal. RAVPower products come in a few different sizes and are extremely durable and affordable. ***Giveaway details at the end of this post***

#12 Mini Envelope Wallet

I think it’s so important to support small businesses, especially around the holidays, which brings me to my next item! Lyndon Louise is a wonderful Etsy seller who offers handmade products that are made out of salvaged scrap leather pieces. The origin of these leather scraps comes from different fashion companies, Hollywood film costume departments, and even the occasional garage sale! Her focus is to turn someone else’s scraps into newly created treasures.

I recently purchased one of her mini envelope wallets and used it to hold all of my business cards while attending the World Travel Market in London! It was so useful and hardly took up any room in my bag. You can also use it as a small travel wallet if you just want to carry around your essential cards.

#13 Cardtorial Prints

I got this amazing wooden print from a friend last year for my birthday! The photo you see above is in journal form but you can order just a print of it as well. It’s one of the best presents I’ve received and I certainly aim to eat well and travel often. Great words to live by, right? Cardtorial makes a number of lovely paper goods which are hand-crafted and laser-cut onto beautiful, sustainable wood. Their designs are simple, elegant, and all made in the USA! Side note: Their Instagram is REALLY nice 🙂

#14 Airbnb Gift Card

Let’s be realistic, sometimes it’s really hard to find that perfect gift. And at the end of the day, a lot of people would secretly (or not so secretly) be happy with a gift card! My local grocery store has a giant gift card section which is where I noticed an Airbnb gift card for the first time! I don’t know why it took me so long to realize Airbnb provides gift cards. It makes perfect sense.

For those of you out of the loop, Airbnb is the perfect alternative to hotels. It’s a place where you can list, discover, and book unique accommodation around the world. Most commonly, people use it to stay in apartments that are provided by locals. I’ve used it countless times and nine times out of 10, you’re getting a much better value than your standard hotel room.

If you haven’t used Airbnb before and are thinking of signing up, you can use my code to get $35 off your first booking! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ha! I thought the crumpled map was a joke at first, but OMG. How insanely cool! This is perfect for someone like me who doesn’t trust Google Maps but who also can’t be trusted with the paper ones, either… Great gift guide all around, Lauren! The city grid necklaces are also a great find.

  2. Ticker Eats The World says:

Wow some really unique items are there. The wood prints sounds intriguing and the crumpled map even if it’s all that great would be perfect for my kid who likes to just that with all paper. And the 36 Hours book is on my wishlist.

  3. Christina says:

Skyroam looks like something I need. How many GB of data do you get for $99.99? Mobile data can be shockingly expensive in some countries. A few years ago I inadvertently left mobile data turned for two days while Singapore and got a shock when my bill was over $2000!

  4. Megan lamb says:

I travel for work often and always looking for things to make travel more efficient. Love the jewelry organizer and who doesn’t need a SkyRoam or the portable charger!

  5. Kanika says:

I m making a travel themed wall in my home n there are so many ideas i got from your post… specially that map one 🙂 . Next stop is the global entry website… hight time , i should sign uo for that 🙂

  6. Kenzie says:

  7. Skye says:

Great guide. I have been looking at Skyroam and you’ve just encouraged me to check it out a bit further. Could come in really handy. Love the crumpled maps. I have one from Paris that we have used over and over.

  8. Sue Woods says:

Be wondered about sky roam for over a year, and think it would be awesome. I also found those crumple maps pretty cool.

  9. melody pittman says:

Great list of travel items. I love the 36 hour books. I have the whole collection. I think I just really like the pictures and the feel of the covers. 😉 That Sony camera sure is nice.

  10. Alesha @ NOMADasaurus says:

Some great ideas I never even thought of. We wish we had a battery power pack in so many places. Something goes flat and there is no where to plug it in, was so annoying sometimes. I love the jewellery holder. So cute and i love all the pockets. Thanks for the great gift ideas Lauren.

  11. Emily says:

Ooh the skyroam sounds genius! You can’t go wrong with the chargers either. I will also have to look at the 36 hours in guides – they look beautiful and the Europe editions would be very useful for me as I’m planning on getting to as many as I can for short breaks!

  12. Angela says:

Wow, I love all of these so much! I really need to try skyroam, I didn’t know it existed before I read this. I might just be buying myself a scratch map for Christmas too!

  13. Angelique says:

Hi, Lauren…this was such a good blog post. I love all of the items you featured. I’m dying to get a Skyroam. Have you had any problems with it like glitches? Look forward to reading more of your posts 🙂

    • Lauren Meshkin says:

Thanks, Angelique! I really appreciate your kind words. I’ve had Skyroam for two years now and zero glitches. I keep it around with me all day when I’m traveling around so my only suggestion would be to have a portable charger with you! The battery drains a little faster than I’d like but that’s my only complaint. I do keep it on for a long time though 😉

  14. Dana says:

Lauren. Amazing job! Who wouldn’t want to win all these items. I am interested in checking out the book and that great scratch map! Happy holidays to you

  15. travelling chingrita says:

Great holiday post! Love that you tied it with a giveaway – super cute and generous of you 🙂 I love the Umbra Jewelry Organizer as all my jewellery gets all messed up when I travel as I jam it into my wallet and spend hours unknotting things!

  16. Bart and Eena says:

As big fans of the 36 Hours series we didn’t know that there’s a book already! Thank you for this blog entry we will definitely buy that as a gift for ourselves! Cheers for the holiday!
